RE Latest upgrade of Instant Messenger

Is there any way to stop the nag screen from asking if you want the
latest upgrade of Instant Messenger. I did the upgrade once and the
only way out of the problems was to do an image restore of my system.
My contacts got hosed and the program brought down messages and
flagged many as spam and deleted many.

Any ideas to get rid of this problem would be appreciated.

Sure, you can not only get rid of the nag but you can nuke Vista and
install a real operating system like Ubuntu, which is free and comes
with access to over 24,000 free programs.
