If in the Windows Live Contacts screen of Windows Live Messenger
is present as example of an instant messaging address,
I think creation of @live.com IDs will be possible in the future :-)))

Yes, there have been some back door methods discovered and exploited for
creating @live.com addresses. They have also been closed pretty quickly, but the
addresses created while they were open have been allowed to continue to exist.

Personally, I prefer creating a @live.com account when officially it
will be possible
