Couple clarification points. You should have a virtual IP, virtual network
name, File Share resource and physical disk resource in one group. The
cluster group should not contain anything more than Cluster name, Virtual
IP, Quorum, and perhaps MSDTC. The clients should be connecting to the
file share resource using the virtual network network name defined for your
file share group. You must create the file share from cluster
administrator and not explorer. In 2008 fail over clustering, you can
create the share in explorer and enforcement is made on the setup of these
resources. The fact that things do not work based on the location of
cluster group lead me to believe that these best practices may not be
followed.
