Hi all.

I have a HP DV5 1009tx laptop running vista home premium.

My question is, i want to but the Logitech X530 5.1 surround speakers but
want to know if vista will recognise that i have hooked up the 5.1 surround
set?? Also i was looking for some speaker settings that let you select what
kind of speakers you are using, but i cant find it. It used to show basic
pictures of the selected speaker settings in a properties window. I cant
remember if it was on XP or Vista. And now i cant find it anywhere.
Please help.

TIA.
Roland.

Hi Roland,

It's a function of the sound card and supporting drivers and software. If
the sound card supports 5.1, then you should have an option to select it in
the Control Panel/Sound applet on the Playback tab. Select the device on
that tab, then on Properties to get all the options it supports.

First off, to use those 5.1 analog speakers requires that you have 3 analog
sound outputs on your computer; for front, rear and centre/subwoofer
speakers. The specs for the computer only shows that it has a couple of
stereo headphone jacks and an HDMI connector, so 5.1 analog sound output
might not be possible.

The audio driver might include an audio manager utility that allows you to
preset the speaker output configuration to whichever modes are possible to
use on your computer. In some cases it can also reconfigure the analog ports
on the computer to different functions than they are labeled in order to
accommodate multiple speaker outputs. To access the audio utility there
would usually be an icon for it in the notification area and/or one in
Control Panel.

If the computer hasn't got such an audio manager, or even if it does, you
can use the Windows speaker configuration tool instead.
The speaker settings are very similar in XP and Vista. There is a Sound icon
in Control panel and there may also be a sound volume icon in the
notification area. Double click the Sound icon in Control Panel or if the
sound volume icon is showing in your notification area (system tray) you can
right click the icon and select Playback Devices. On the Playback Tab
highlight the Speakers icon and click on the Configure button to choose from
the available speaker options. If you don't see a 5.1 speakers option then
you won't be able to connect all of the speakers.

Hello, I am using Vista 32bit. And I am having the same problem. When
configure the speakers, I see the 5.1 option, and test it, the rea
speakers work, but the front centre doesn't. But when I play musi
(WMP10) only the sub and front left and right work. I have trie
everything, but nothing works. If anyone could help with this, it woul
be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Conor
