Hi Robert,
I just did a test search for something I only anticipated to be in WLMail. I entered the keyword in the Start > Start search box. I found that you are right. There were about a dozen entries for WM but neither of the 2 that are in WLiveM. Now I know those a re useless searches that way. :-) As for which version of Windows Search, I have no idea how to find that out. Thanks for your response. As an update, today searches seemed to be more productive. They seem to be finding often all the relevant emails in WLiveM. Thanks, again. So, to be clear, that's the Ctrl-e filter in WLMail which is now working better and now finding messages based on content as well as header information? Then that would probably just mean that the index wasn't up-to-date when you first noticed your problem symptom. > Thanks, again. You're welcome. Happy to help. In this folder (see its location at [Tools >] Options > Advanced > Maintenance > Store folder) is a folder called Sentinel. It should contain a single file, WLMailSearchSentinel.eml. Open this with Notepad; copy the string it contains (after the content-type) and paste it into your Search deskbar. If this throws up the file you've just visited, then WS is indexing your store folder. If it doesn't, it's not. -- Noel > "Robert Aldwinckle" wrote: > >> (cross-post added to Vista General) >> "BRowley7" <> wrote in message >> news:875A5F4D-B657-4083-9E19-... >> > IF I enter the search keywords in the space provided @ Start > >> > Start search, then all the email I am looking for will show up. >> >> Since your OS is Vista, is that finding messages which were >> stored by WinMail, your OS native mail and news reader? >> >> > But if I enter the same keywords in the Search space provided >> > in Windows Live Mail, only a portion of the true results >> > appear. Hi Noel,
I don't know anything about those 2 search methods. At least they do not sound familiar. What I have been doing is entering my keywords in the Search box (in WLiveM) that is above the list of emails. I've checked in Control Panel but don't find anything relating to WSearch. Anyway, thanks for your tips here. Hi hope someone can help me with a search problem. I have just started using
Windows 7 with Windows Live Mail. As a training establishment I often have emails and documents with a course date listed in the content of the mail or doc. not necessarily in the subject or title. Previously when searching for a document or emails I could just type in word in the search box at start area on my desktop page and I would get all emails and docs pop up with that word or date in it. I have done an exercise knowing there is a particular document in My Documents relating the a course on the 26th May however just typing that into the search area i.e. 26th May it does not come up Can anyone help make my searches easier..please.
