Obviously, everything should have been transferred automatically,
but...............

This is for WLMail 2009. I don't know if there is any difference with
WLMail 2011 as I haven't even looked at it. It is for transferring to a
different machine, so just leave that part out. I have no idea about rules
though.

Transferring data from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail:

For Messages:

Copy the *ENTIRE* OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx
must be included). Place this on the Desktop or other location on the
machine using WLMail. Open WLMail and: File | Import | Messages |
Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and point to where you saved it.

OE Message Store Location:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the
location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and
navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

For Addresses:

Open the Address Book in OE and File | Export | Address Book (wab) and
save it to the Desktop. Copy to a flash drive. Place this on the Desktop
or other location on the machine using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (Go | Contacts on the Menu Bar), and
File | Import | Windows Address Book (wab) and point to where you saved
it.

Note: If you use a CD or DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on
the new machine you must remove the Read Only attribute in Properties
before you import.

For Account Settings:

In OE: Tools | Accounts, select the account and export it to the Desktop.
This will be a .iaf file. Copy it to the new machine's Desktop and in
WLMail: Tools | Accounts and import the settings from the location you
saved them.

Worse case scenario for messages, create a folder on the desktop. Drag
messages from an OE folder to the Desktop folder. Open WLMail and drag the
messages from the Desktop folder to a WLMail folder.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, might have been MY fault. I already migrated
from OE to WLM on one machine. I just can't export from the WLM on
machine A to WLM on machine B,

So is there a manual way to do all that?

Thanks

If you put this tool on both machines, you should be able to backup from
one and restore on another. I did it with WLMail 2009 from XP to Win7.
That was some time ago and I don't use WLMail any more, so you'll be
somewhat on your own.

Have a look here as well.

Thanks for the thought, but on that page I see no tool....

Sorry. I meant to post that kink, but forgot this one.

Thank you Bruce, but that tool is all but worthless. It moves the
files over, but most have errors.

Is there a link out there for a proper MANUAL way to move over WLM
from one machine to another.

Seriously, I despise MS right now.

Thanks

The other link I gave you tells you how to back up your data. After that
it's a matter of copying it to flash or CD and transferring it.

If the WLM import/export fails..then you've corrupted/damaged files in your
folders on your hard drive...those files may or may not appear in the
folders shown in WLM.

You've a couple of options...but you will have to find the damaged
files..since they most likely won't import or index.
1. Export using WLM's export option using the Selective option..if a
selected folder fails to export..compare files in your folder in
WLM(quantity and content) vs. the same folder when viewed in Explorer

2. Long hand- drag and drop to a blank folder, then drag into WLM
- note: a damaged file may not 'drop' back in WLM or it may corrupt.

3. Create new folders in WLM's storage folders...then copy(not move)
messages from your other folders(accounts and other storage folders)...then
selective export that folder..

Question:
AV program scanning emails incoming/outgoing ?
- a known cause of eml and nws corruption

Were dbx files excluded from AV scanning in OE(i.e. the files may have been
damaged during OE) ?

The bottom line...you'll need to work around the problem(find it or be
selective until found)to have success.
