Take a deep breath and read this KB fix, that has been posted on MS site
since 2003?

What SP version of what version of Windows are you running? If you disable
MC receiver service under services does the problem still occur?

Not sure what you mean by the second method masking the problem and I don't
understand why you wouldn't try it.

Those items should not be in your Startup items normally, if they are, then
that *is* the problem. Removing them does, in fact, "fix" the problem.

Now it they somehow reappear later in the Startup, then you do have some
other problem, but if the problem doesn't reoccur, the problem is fixed. So
why bang you head against the wall worrying about why the problem occurred?

The Configuration Utility is normal for Diagnostic or Selective Startup
if changes are made in the startup. Just check the do not show and you
will not see that screen until other changes are made.

The Media Center Receiver Service is your tuner service, it is
necessary.
You may need to update your tuner driver.

In effect it is Media Center. If you want to disable Media Center, turn
off the three Media Center services.

If the receiver service is not running, then you dont get any TV, either
from off the air or STB.

I haven't use XP in while so I don't remember if you don't have the receiver
service starting automatically, it may just fire up when you load MC.
