Greetings,

This means your status is set to "Busy". To get it back to green, right-click the icon,
choose choose Status and then Available.

In addition to what Jonathan said:

Click on Tools / Options / Personal. The "Status" section
provides two options, which may affect your Messenger status:

a. Show me as "Away" when I'm inactive for xx minutes and
b. Show me as "Busy" and block my alerts when I am running
a full-screen program or presentation settings are turned
on.

You may need to configure these options to conform to your
personal requirements

Thank you both.
Tt's sorted now. I knew about the " right click and Status " options. Before
it said Available and yet still in orange/red colour. I did not bother to
change it to Busy and then back Available, which somehow did the trick.
