No1 cause of LAN intermittency is a buggy powersave feature:

Other than that, does the LAN card use some kind of specialist 'manager'
software or a conventional driver? (If you had to run a setup program instead
of just pointing Windows at an .inf, then that is likely) If it has special
software loaded, try removing it.
For all it costs I'd be inclined to bang-in an RTL8139 or similar PCI card
and see what happens. At least this might clinch where the trouble lies.
