IntelliSync for MSN maps the "Personal e-mail" from your MSN Address book to
the "Email 2" field in Outlook. The "Work e-mail" is synchronized with the
unnumbered "Email" address in Outlook. I don't know of a way to change the
mappings.

I don't remember having this problem, but it's been a while since I used a
Pocket PC. I would've thought that the PPC software would be smart enough
to show the "E-mail 2" value if no regular "E-mail" address is present.
Based on what you're experiencing, though, perhaps it is not that smart.
Most of my contacts probably had a work e-mail address.

I have my HP iPAQ h2215 Pocket PC set up to automatically synchronize with
Microsoft Outlook 2002 when I connect it, and I then synchronize Microsoft
Outlook 2002 with my MSN account using Intellisync for MSN. Although this
synchronizes all the information I expect (I just do Calendar and Contacts),
all the email addresses for the contacts end up being put in the "E-mail2"
field on my Pocket PC. Because this is, for most of my contacts, the only
contact info I have, it does not show any information beside their name when
I view the contact list on my Pocket PC. This is very annoying, since it
forces me to go through every contact manually on my Pocket PC and move the
email if I want to see anything beside their name. Why does the
synchronization put the email (which usually was initially entered in either
the Personal or Work email fields in Hotmail) in E-mail2 instead of E-mail?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you so much! I don't know why I had so much trouble getting anything
to work with MSN, Outlook, IntelliSync for MSN, and my PDA a year or so ago,
but your suggestion worked almost effortlessly! Maybe I was just too new to
synchronization then. I have quite a few duplicates to remove now, since all
my friends' and family's birthdays were already in both, but it's worth it.
Thanks again, I've been waiting for this moment a long time now, it really
feels good to be able to do this. Thanks.

Hmmm... I found this article (http://hardware.mcse.ms/message52909.html)
that references your error. It doesn't offer a solution, but based on what
I read there it sounds least possible that the information you received from
MS support about your PPC not being supported for Intellisync could be
accurate. Perhaps Intellisync for MSN does not work with PPC 2003? I'm
really not sure about this... if it is true it surprises me.

You could try just installing Outlook and seeing if that resolves your
issue. I doubt it will, but it's worth a shot. The last option I can think
of is that you let ActiveSync synchronize your PPC with Outlook, and then
use Intellisync for MSN to synchronize Outlook with MSN / Hotmail. While
this would require that you sync your data with Outlook, it would not
require you to ever open Outlook yourself and actually use the Outlook
interface. You could set up ActiveSync to automatically synchronize when
you connect your device. Intellisync for MSN always requires that you
manually initiate the synchronization.

This type of configuration up is what I use to keep my PPC contacts
synchronized with MSN. I sync my PPC with Outlook using ActiveSync, and I
sync Outlook with Hotmail using Intellisync for MSN.

I hope you can find a workable solution that you're happy with.

You might be right about that, with all the frustration I had when I was
trying to figure out how to synchronize and the fact that I now have a
different computer from when I got my Pocket PC I may have forgotten that it
came it. However, that brings up another question that I have wondered
about. I went to the Calendar page of my Hotmail account and downloaded
IntelliSync to give it a second attempt (in case it was fixed since I last
tried). Everything looked like it was going to work, until I clicked the
Sync button in IntelliSync for MSN and it started trying to synchronize. It
gave me the following error:

My PDA was in it's cradle and connected, and my internet connection was
connected. Do you have any idea why this error might be happening? Do I have
to have Outlook on my computer in order for IntelliSync for MSN to work even
if I'm never going to be opening the Outlook window? If that's all I need it
on my computer for, I'll put it on (I just didn't want to have to do the
synchronizing through Outlook's interface). Thanks.
