Hello Amcis,
The first question is what you like to achive, a really new forest/domain
with different name or keep the old domain name, all Group policies, domain
user accounts and domain machines etc.etc.?
If you like to start with a complete new domain name you have to use ADMT
to migrate the old environment to the new one or really start from scratch
and add all computers to the new domain, create all user accounts new, all
GPOs etc.etc.
If you just want to have a new server and keep all settings, accounts, etc.
etc. you have to add the new server to the existing domain and promote to
DC, make it DNS server and Global catalog, move FSMO roles, reconfigure the
clients for the new DNS server and you're done.
So please clarify what you need and we can help more detailed. Also important
is if Exchange or SQL or any other application is running on the existing DC.
Best regards
Meinolf Weber
