Other than ADMT or Swing Migration (obviously what I would be endorsing
because it's not a migration of the domain, just preserving it), to
translate Users to a different domain you would be looking for a 3rd party
tool that does SID translation or relies upon the same sort of SID history
features that ADMT invokes. Each of these make less sense than just
preserving the domain.
If there's a decision maker that needs to understand why tossing out the
most sensible answer makes no sense, feel free to contact me offline to help
