Un join it from the NT 4.0 domain and join it to the AD domain and setup the
permissions.

Gotchas? Make sure you know/set the administrator password. It will/should
change when it is no longer a member of the NT 4.0 domain.

I have a Windows 2000 member server connected to a Windows NT Domain.

I'd like to move the Windows 2000 server to a new 2003 Primary Domain controller under the same Domain Name if possible.

I've read that I need to "unjoin" the 2000 server from the NT domain. How would I accomplish this? I don't have a lot of experience with NT.

My bigger concern is this though: I am not able to access resources on a 2003 server from my 2000 server. There's a login required but no matter what I put in there, it will not work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

Thank you for your post as well as to Danny Sander for the suggestion
sharing.

I think what Danny said was right on the target. As there is no trust
relationship between the new AD domain and the NT 4.0 domain, the best
solution is to manually migrate this member server from NT 4.0 domain to AD
domain.

To do this, please disjoin the Windows Server 2003 member server from NT
4.0 domain first, and then join this server to the AD domain. After that,
you need to manually configure the security permissions on the member
server. Please also make sure that you have the proper permission to finish
the above steps

I hope this helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to post back

Migrating a 2003 server
I have a couple of Windows 2k3 servers that are members of an old NT
domain. One server is hosting member home directories. I want t
migrate this server to an AD domain we have in house. This new A
domain is not in any way trusted with the NT4 domain. The users i
these domains have the same usernames on each

What is the procedure to accomplish this and are there any hidde
gotchas. I am assuming that the security properties will need to b
redone on the user home directories. Do I have to install any ne
software on the 2k3 server

Thanks

You can change it to workgroup mode. Control Panel|System|Computer
Name|Change

Make sure you know the local administrator password before doing so as the
domain accounts will no longer work.
