Hi PA, sorry for my irate response that you'll see on OE forum. )

As to this problem, after Shenan's post I realize that it must be that I
refused to install SP3 because I heard/read many users' complaints after
they installed it. But if it's that important for security then I guess
I'll have to install it. Thanks for crossposting. I'll study the link you
gave me here and will see what I can do.

Thanks again. Adela

Computers running WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered any further critical
security updates, Automatic Updates will cease to function, and Windows
Update website will not be available after 12 April 2010 until SP3 is
installed.

I understand this to mean that UNTIL 12 April 2010 WinXP SP2 WILL continue
to offer the critical security updates and automatic updates? So I have
time then to wait a little to install SP3...

I went to Microsoft.Public.Windowsce.Updates and didn't find the question I
posted. Do I have the wrong forum in my email? Could you give me the
correct link please? Thank you. Adela

A1. Correct but I'd strongly recommend getting SP3 installed now, in case
you encounter any problems.

A2. If you reply to this thread and continue the crosspost to OE General,
Windows Update, and WinXP General, your reply will be available in each of
the three (3) newsgroups. However, if you've read your reply (or one of
mine) in, e.g., OE General, the same post will be marked as Read in the
other two (2) newsgroups. So it'd be best to concentrate on one (1) of the
newsgroups to avoid any more confusion.

Thank you PAB, you're right about installing SP3 now. The links you gave me
about the matter are very useful, i.e., it said for IE6 users to install
XPSP3 to cover all updates retroactively, and hope I understood this
correctly.

One thing worries me is that I may not have enough resources in my RAM and
HD, but I'll have to go back to your useful link and find out more
carefully, as well as check my resources too.

Oh so the answers in the crossposted forums will be the same in all 3? Then
I'll remain in this one, although just for my records, do you have the MS
windows update forum handy? Adela

If WinXP SP2 working OK, SP3 should install & work just fine, too.
