Okay, what the hell. HP lists that my laptop can have up to 4 GBs o
memory installed in it, but when I opened the bottom of the laptop t
have a look, there are two slots...already occupied by two rams chips.
Now, do they mean I can REPLACE the current memory (two 1 gb noteboo
sticks) with two of a greater size

Yes, my laptop says it will handle 4GB, but it came with 2 512MB chips, I
had to replace them to get the 4GB.

Yep - you have to replace them. But be aware - Vista 32 bit can not use 4GB
of RAM...it's limited to about 3.

Probably, read the manual and find out.

Thank Gawd for the bloatware known as Vista. Makes alot of cheap RAM
available for the rest of us, as Vista users have to keep throwing away
what they already purchased to try and get Vista to run at a half decent
speed.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, Yes. You may want to replace only one stick though. 32 bit
Vista for fully utilize 3 gigs, but will only be able to use part of the
fourth gig (the amount varies, but you will probably lose at least half).
This is because memory addresses at the top of the four gig address space
are used by video memory and other devices.

You are just incredibly retarted. Over and over and over you keep up your
bashing. Why not go out and try and get a job? I hear they need people at
Burger King and Taco Bell. You just might be able to get one of those jobs
although, you would need some training to handle it. Maybe with your parents
help and with help from other members of the community, they could all help
you.

Remember, it take a village to help an idiot.

You are a tad incorrect about the amout of RAM 32Bit versions of Windows
(including Vista) will accept and utilize. Read here:

Two things:
A. Why do you need more than 2GB of RAM?
B. If you have a need for more RAM, use Crucial's memory scanner tools here
( http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx) to determine what you have
installed and their recommended upgrades if any.

No, Crucial are a tad disingenuous - after all, they are in the business of
selling RAM!
Vista can support 4GB of ADDRESS SPACE - that is NOT the same as supporting
4Gb RAM.
Vista 32 bit will ONLY see just about 3GB of available RAM. The rest is used
by devices.

Have a look here, amongst other pages you can google for:
