One assumes that the update was installed from a server location. If so,
then review the Sec Bulletin. Under General Information click the
plus sign next to Security Update Information, then the plus sign next
to Excel 2003, then the Administrative Installation Information
link.

FWIW, under the " Prerequisites and Additional Update Details " heading
it states

So if the update is not listed in ARP it did not install correctly.
You could check the affected workstations to see if a
$NtUninstallKB923088$ folder is present in the %windir%. If so, open it,
then open the spuninst folder, and run spuninst.exe to manually remove
the update.
As to why the update failed to install correctly, there *should* also be
a KB923088.log located in %windir% that may contain pertinent error
messages.
