RE: msn error code 80040154

Cause: MSXML library may be corrupted and may have to be reinstalled

Troubleshooting steps:

Step 1. Re-register msxml3.dll

- Click on the Start menu, select Run and type the following:
Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll

Hopefully, you will see a window popup that says: DllRegisterServer
succeeded in C:\Windows\System32\msxml3.dll is succeeded.

Step 2. Restart your computer and sign into Messenger again

if it registers with success and you still get the error number then

Well, none of this works for me and when i go onto tools, options,
connection, i see a message that says "You are currently not connected to the
..NET messenger service" Why wont it work... Help....

i tryed the link but, as with alot of microsoft pages IE displays the "cannot
connect" page so i cannot download the program are there any alternate links?

Error 80040154

After trying dozens of so called fixes, some the same as above like re registering mx blah blah blah I was getting seriously frustrated. After many attemps at other fixes I made up my own based on other peoples experiences and this one worked.

I downloaded msicuu2.exe, do a google search for it and download it. Run the program and remove anything with the word "live" in it. You might also want to download Zapmessenger, once again it is easily found on google, download and run it.
I downloaded both programs and ran them. I then went in to program files to delete anything with the words "windows live" and did the same in the "common files " folder of C: drive.

I restarted and then downloaded an older version of messenger, google msn messenger older versions.
I downloaded version 8.5.1235 and installed this and it worked fine.

Once I was sure it was working fully I restarted my pc and then downloaded the latest version of messenger and it worked first time.

I hope this works for you if you are getting the same error code and had enough of it.
