Wow!
With that type of software installed base and being the curious type especially when protection of one's investment is apparently
at risk, would this not be ab appropriate time to consider a non Msft product prior to the next unknown Big Mac attack(e.g. Acronis
True Image or Ghost)?

: The event logs clearly show an error message not generated before in over 4
: months, since the last re-install.
:
: Cause of the error, my "forcing" closure of the idiot designed messenger
: "defrag" srevice.
: Since I routinely force this service closed, many previous entries were
: there to compare with.
:
: And yes, I agree that Messenger/MSN services have no reason to "touch that"
:
: The problem (well known at Microsoft) is that the MS programs and Windows
: are so poorly written and updates are not well thought out.
:
: I seriously doubt that anyone at Microsoft would be able to explain what
: happened, except to blame me for running my XP services in a non-standard
: mode and forcing closed a service.
:
: I just wanted to post what had happened, so that others with the same "START
: programs list" missing programs, would understand it is a Microsoft problem.
:
: The fix required in this instance, 1hr of scanning with 3 different programs
: (100% clean), then over 3hrs of uninstalling over $10,000 worth of very large
: programs to get back to the point of my last restore, then restoring, re-
: loading, re-updating and a full de-frag..... All because of a McDonalds Ad
: and/or a MSN Questionaire (that ran on my desktop!)
:
: Microsoft is dead, they just dont know it yet. The only reason they hang on
: is charging $200+ for a OS that should be $59 and a Justice Dept that is full
: of crooks. Just look at Vista, try and use that OS for the kind of video work
: I do....
:
: Thanks for a very rough and stressful night Microsoft, hope that the penny
: or nickel you made with those Ad's was worth it. I really dont expect
: anything else from Microsoft except more of the same. Sad
