Yes... still a fairly simple idea. I'm surprised your searches came up
empty. The answer is still: Start with the Deployment Guide.
You have three options:
[a] The server is an independent server, as you've described -- which means
it's no different than installing a fresh server at any other site that
doesn't have a server.
[b] The server is a downstream server of your existing server, but still
retains independence as to which updates are approved and when.
[c] The server is a clone (aka a "replica") of your existing server, and
essentially functions hands-off -- a remote distribution point of your
corporate server, if you will.
All of these options are well documented in the WSUS Deployment Guide, which
is easily accessible from the link provided at
http://www.microsoft.com/wsus.
