Hi,
ActiveSync will do the same if Outlook is not open. It will prompt you for
the profile. But if the wrong profile is on, then you need to be careful
while synchronizing the device or else you could end up losing information.
A better alternative would be to actually setup two different user accounts
on your desktop. This way you and your wife will have different profiles.
You can do away with the "ask which profile to use".
In Win Xp you can setup and configure the users in the Control Panel -> User
Accounts.
