FYI - there's nothing wrong with what you did. A quick press on the
power button is the same as issuing a "Shutdown" or "Sleep" command on
most systems, depending on how you have it configured.
A long press on the power button (5 seconds) is a "hardware shutdown".
That's a little more severe but it still sometimes necessary when
Vista refuses to shut down. It does terminate without doing any
reasonable shutdown process, so avoid that one if you can.
