If it were useless, it wouldn't be labeled "important".
Being in the habit of installing all updates to avoid 'reminders', I seem to
have no trouble at all with 'Vista Home Premium', SP2, 32 bit,
and that is with a dial-up connection as well as automatic updating.
The choice of omitting 'useless' updates is totally yours.
