Enable the Preview Pane and the Message Headers
The picture will present in the header as thumbnail with a slide show
option.
Right click on the image and select 'Open' if you don't wish to use the
slide show option.

When I access binary newsgroups with my current version of Live Mail, the
default way to see the images is to double click on the message. This
downloads a thumbnail of the image, and then I have to click on the
thumbnail to launch Windows Photo Viewer to see the image. The previous
version of Live Mail opened the image directly. Is there a way to eliminate
the Photo Viewer step?
