I am having the same problem. I have:
intel dx58so mother board
intel i7 processo
seagate 1.5tb 32mb sata h
i dont think all the other stuff matters at this point

On start up it says 'hard disk not found' but in the bios it shows al
the hd info. I have tried changing out all the cables. I have trie
using a different sata port on the mother board. I have tried changin
bios settings and reset them when non of the changes helped. I have th
dvd drive set to load 1st but never get the option to 'boot from cd' s
i can not do a clean install. I'm at a total loss what to do next.
can hear the hd spinning but still getting no where. it sucks i spent
lot on this build and am unable to get it to run. any help would b
wonderful

Contact Seagate, as those big disks were prone to going belly up (firmware
problem)
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/cr...p?DocId=207931

But as I don't have such a disk, I don't know how to get or apply the fix

The dx58so is a very stable board. However it is really updated. No
PATA ports, no ps2 ports, etc. It does however have six SATA ports
and 2 eSATA ports. It is stated in this thread that some of those big
hard disks are problematic. Go to Intel's support site and download
the latest BIOS and drivers. Have them ready the first thing after
the install of the OS. Now for the BIOS SETTINGS: advanced > drive
configuration -- configure SATA as RAID. BOOT CONFIGURATION --
floppy, cd/dvd, hard disk. You should be good to go if the drive is
not bad.

Another thought that happened to me once on a friends PC. There might
be something in the HDD's MBR. Try using the manufacturers
diagnostic, to completely write zeros to the drive then use the test
the drive.

So believe it of not the 'other stuff that probably didn't matter' was the problem. This was a 6gb build with dual graphics cards. I removed 1 graphics card and 1 of 3 2gb ram chip and the system loaded properly am currently loading the OS 'vista 64 bit' then will go back and put in the 2nd graphics card and the extra ram. A big headache but now I learned for big builds start with the basics then add the extras.

So I got the os loaded and put the 2nd card back in and no go so I called tech support for the video cards and they walked me through updating the bios (hadn't done it before cause well just the thought of messing with a bios update scared me and 2 i read all the bios update stuff when 'no hard disk found' was my problem and non of the updates dealt with that issue.) So if you having the same problem and trying to run sli you have to update the bios. the pc is running great now.. Hope my problems help relieve someone else's headache.
