It wasn't working in during the private and public betas, rather than fix
it(the feature was present), the feature was removed in the final(though
iirc they did retain but orphan the registry setting ..present but not a
functional since nothing in the program calls the reg setting).
- Note: the indents or insert character are plain text; in html the message
is indented with a veritcal bar(like Office)

Also contrary, imo, to comments about removed because of Usenet....Its'
really not a Usenet thing.. it didn't work in Mail mode either(plain
text)...and there are more WLM email users than usenet users....thus Usenet
as a reason would be much further down the list.. I.e. Removed because it
didn't work and not planned on fixing for RTW release. Removing the
feature, rather than leaving it present and not functional then allows the
Support personnel to say it was removed by design intent instead of any
other reason(investigating, won't fix etc)...ie..only one common answer.

Are people disappointed..absolutely. Is it coming back? Unknown.

I just recently got a Windows update that upgraded the version of Windows
Live Mail, and now when I use the newgroups, I no longer get the indents on
the previous messages to those I am replying. Is this not a feature
anymore, or a bug?

Thanks,
Tom

And are people coming back? Unlikely.

The good thing about Firefox and Thunderbird is: I can use it on my XP
Netbook and on my W7 Desktop.
That was another reason for me to get rid of the whole live essentials
thing. I don't want to have different programs for mail or browsing on
my systems.

The "no indent marks" where just the last bit to make me move.

And guess what? I am happy now. Searched the web and found a lot of
other cool and free tools, no need for Essentials anymore.

How did you get Thunderbird to import from WLM?

Simple trick...

I got a google mail account with a lot of space.
Then used WLM to copy all my data to google mail.
(DSL flatrate, don't have to care about traffic)
Later in TB I copied from google mail to my ISP email (all IMAP).

Worked great.

Except... now Google has a permanent record of all your personal mail (even
if you "deleted" it)

You can just drag messages from WLMail folders to a Desktop folder and
then drag them from the Desktop folder to TB folders. I did a dozen
folders in about so many minutes.

That might be true.
But do you think any other cloud service behaves different?
What do you think does MS with you data in the cloud?

YW. I knew you could do it from OE to WLMail, (or just to backup messages
out of your e-mail program), but I just downloaded TB about a week ago and
was going nuts trying to import. Just gave it a shot and it worked.
Surprised me too.
