Vista includes a two-way firewall and an antispyware application (Windows
Defender), but not an anti-virus application.

Did a free-trial of Norton Internet Security (2009) come preinstalled on
your computer when you bought it?

Norton Internet Security 2009 trial version came with my laptop. Now, of
course, it bugs me every hour to renew my subscription, but I don't see any
reason. Personally, I'm not sure North firewall or malware protection is any
better than Microsoft's. Normally, I've used ZoneAlarm as my firewall and
NAV as my antivirus.

Thanks, John

Has the free-trial expired?

Even if you want to purchase & install NAV 2009, I would STRONGLY recommend
that you uninstall the free-trial (and LiveUpdate), then download/run the
removal tool before installing any other AV app or security suite.

After you've uninstalled NIS 2009 from your OS using the proper removal
tool, re-activate the build-in firewall application and WindowsDefender.
Then download/install:
Avira AntiVir® Personal - FREE Antivirus

Good luck
