I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT,(AS A RESULT OF A NOVICE ERROR) I ACCIDENTI-LY
DELETED MY (RUNDLL/RUNDLL32.EXE) FILES.
IS THERE A SIMPLE SOLUTION AVAILABLE TO RE-ESTABLISH THESE FILES ?

Extract a copy from your Windows CD.
How you do that depends on your operating system which you have not
mentioned.
When you repost (perhaps to a group for your O/S), I suggest you do
not post in hard-to-read capitals as you may get ignored.

Dear Alan, you say "extract a copy from your windows CD". Well I have a
similar problem, i.e. when i try to shut down i get a rundll.exe error and i
have to manually click on the "end now" button to shutdown. So... I thought
of finding the rundll.exe file and re-copying it back to its location (even
though I see a rundll.exe file there). Just for info though; i have Windows
XP and SP2 installed. I was unable to instal or copy the file back as it says
that the program is running (namely the file in question). I have since
uninstalled SP2 and reinstalled it but still the same error. Perhaps you
could tell me how to get it off the Windows CD since it won't install
anything on the CD ... the message is ... "what i have on the cd is older
than what is on the computer" (SP2). Hope you or anyone else could shed some
light on my problem ... otherwise i see no other option than to reformat the
hard drive and start all over!

I suggest you post details of the exact message as replacing may not
be the answer. Please post it in an XP newsgroup, not here in Windows
Update.

Sorry, I don't use XP and extracting is different there but see if my
notes help:

Expand in XP instead of Extract as in Win9x.
Description and Explanation of a Cabinet File
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

Files that have _ as the last character of the extension can be
Expanded.
Start - Run and enter CMD.EXE
Enter EXPAND /? for the command line options.

It wouldn't let me reinstall it (runnng SP2 on Presario desktop). So I dragged & dropped it onto my desktop. Then I went looking for somewhere to put it.. Under Presario (C), I have a section named Windows. I dropped the dll onto that name & now everything works again.
