That's wonderful, but you're posting to the wrong forum.

I only have to tick that box for my email account that is hosted for my
website.
Not my normal ISP.

I'm getting the same problems on my home PC.

Windows Vista runs fine in every respect. Windows Mail ran happily for 3
months and then in the last two weeks it doesn't send at all.

1. Receiving fine
2. Outgoing mail sits in the draft folder
3. Can't be sent by sending via another account (set up to test)
4. Server authentication on and extra user/pass info added
5. Tried using ISP SMTP settings AND hosting SMTP settings
(as in it's our own dedicated server where I've set up the account myself)

Is this a general Windows Mail issue? My company runs web hosting for lots
of people and it's the first time I've seen such an all pervasive issue with
a Windows email product.

Any ideas.

It's common for outgoing mail in Windows Mail to sit in the Outbox before
it actually goes out, but not the Drafts folder. Perhaps you are having a
problem with creating the message that sends it to the Drafts folder instead
of trying to send it.

Also, do either of the accounts you used have a connection to port 25
that crosses from one internet provider's equipment to another's before
it gets to the server? If so, such connections to port 25 are often blocked
to cause trouble for spammers. In this case, try to find a way to use a
port other than port 25. Just trying all the ports is a very slow way to
do this, since there are about 65,000 ports available.

The moral of that story is that each mail provider sets up their own
mail servers with their own rules. You should only follow the settings
specified by YOUR mail provider.
