Did you see anything in Event Log? First of all, you can see whether it will
be better if you open less programs. You can try to reinstall Live
Messenger. If the issue persists, you can perform a disk refragment and make
sure you have enough space on the system drive. You can move the page file
to other partition. If the problem is still there, you can use msconfig to
turn off some startup program and services and see whether it will better.
If you turned off all unnecessary startup services and programs and it still
crash when you open Live Messenger, you will need to change the recovery
settings to halt instead of restart. You can change that settings in Control
Panel->System and Maintenance->System, on the Advanced tab, click on
Settings... in the Startup and Recovery section. Then in the Startup and
Recovery dialog box, uncheck Automatic restart, make sure to check Write an
event to the system log and make a note of the Dump file path. After that,
when you open Live Messenger and it crashes, you will see a blue screen with
some error code and description. That will help you to start some diagnostic
things accordingly.
