| I have wondered whether it is something like that, though there is nothing
| on the laptop to suggest that the 'Control' window is not part of Windows 7.
| It maybe that the laptop hardware has features that W7 can use, that are not
| present in the little Bluetooth adapter that I bought for the desktop.

What is the make and model of the laptop ?

What is the make and model of the little Bluetooth adapter in the desktop ?

| The laptop is a Dell Vostro 3500 and uses the Dell "ROW Dell Bluetooth 365
| Card"

| The adapter in the desktop appears to use the CSR chipset, and has a label
| with FIS on the end of it..

My Dell Latitude D620 has the Bluetooth 350 module and what you described isn't under
Vista/32.

Knowing Dell, I'd say it is the software Dell provides that makes the difference.

BTW: Did you know there is a Win7/32 & Win7/64 "urgent" update for the Bluetooth 365
module software ?

| Thanks for pointing that out. I have downloaded the new driver. I see that
| Dell have produced quite a number of new drivers for my Vostro. It is a
| pity that downloads from their web site are so slow.

I Have FiOS at home and I get good speed. Often much better then what I get on my office
network.
