can one re-partition a hard drive with Vista and install Windows 7 for a
multi-boot setup?
if so, what's the easiest way?
hpdesktop
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600@2.4Ghz
3Gigs of RAM
360Gig Hard Drive (126 Gigs Free)
Vista Home Premium 32 bit

First you have to shrink the existing partition. You may be able to use
Disk Management (Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer
Management - Disk Management) but it can only shrink until it hits an
unmovable file (then you would have to use another program, like Easeus
Partition Master http://www.partition-tool.com/). I would suggest
shrinking by at least 60 GB.

Okay - Partition Wizard worked for shrinking/recreating another partition,
but did a boo-boo w/Vista Boot Pro and had to recover vista as i messed up
the bootloader i think as the machine wouldn't reboot ("NTLDR is missing"
error), i'm thinking it may have been ticking the wrong boxes/buttons on the
System Bootloader Maintenance screen. The tutorial/help isn't very user
friendly (someone trying to sound smarter than they actually are). If
anyone has been through this, a couple of pointers would be appreciated.
thx in advance

After you create the new partition, all you need to do is to format and
install Win 7 on it. Win 7 will set up the multi-boot options. You only
need Vista Boot Pro to make changes to the options, like renaming the OS's,
changing the default, etc.
I suggest asking for assistance in Sevenforums... Brink really does know his
stuff.
