windows 7 is supposed to be upto 40% faster
but is it worth spending another £200 .. I doubt it
MS will bring out the patches to catch Vista up in no time
plus I can hardly call my machine slow anyways

Win 7 is indeed much faster and can be installed on older machines. I
installed the BETA on a machine with an nVidia 256 MB 6200 card, a 2Ghz
AMD processor with 1.5 GB of 333 RAM, not exactly a high end machine and
Win 7 was just as fast, perhaps faster, than XP on the same machine.

but when the official release comes around and they start charging is the
time to decide
I paid £200 less than a year ago for Vista Ultimate .. Should I be expected
to pay another £200 this year?
I just dont have that sort of cash .. Yeah!! if I build a new machine then I
could absorb it, but at present theres nothing wrong with mine
