On the WU Website, select your history of updates - now click on failed update (red
mark) and see if there is an error code.
If there is an error code, write it down and post back or in the alternative, do a
search for the error code.

Also -
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error code(s)
associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install. If appropriate copy
and paste the error codes into this thread so someone may be able to assist you. On
the other hand, you may be able to find the error code and other suggestions by
searching the Newsgroup.

Also check Windows folder for file called KB******.log (****** = number of update ie
KB896688) and post the contents of the failed update.
This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.

I clear out the software disbrituation file & it didn't work. I manually
downloaded each of the high priority updates except for IE7. In between I
tried WD & it failed. I found the Baselne Security Analyser on Microsoft & I
am running it now. I wonder if there is just something wrong with my Windows
Update file. Is there a way to reinstall it? If so, which one? I am pretty
good with doing this, but I am not an expert. I appreciate all your help.

You problem actually might be slightly different to my problem - the error code
means -

BG_E_NETWORK_DISCONNECTED
0x80200010
The network card is inactive or disconnected. All jobs are placed in the
BG_JOB_STATE_TRANSIENT_ERROR state

If you are using Panda - check this
16/7/05 - For the conflict between windows update and Panda anti-virus Titanium 2005
the hotfix is: hfT50504s8.exe and you can find it here:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/support...ma=2&pagina=16

For Panda Platinum 2005, and you get 0x80200010 , go to:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/support...oma=2&pagina=3

If not check this -
Make sure these services are not disabled (Start, Run, type: Services.msc

Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS)
Cryptographic Services
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
System Restore Service

All are fine for:
Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS)
Cryptographic Services
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
System Restore Service

The computer I am having a problem with is on a linksys wireless adapter,
but conection is good. The card is in the machine.

I went to the panda site For Panda Platinum 2005, and you get 0x80200010 ,
go to:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/support...oma=2&pagina=3
but it said my version wasn't compatible. (wrong) that is the correct
version & it would not apply the hotfix. I have the same one on the other
computer, & it is working.

I do not understand BG_E_NETWORK_DISCONNECTED 0x80200010 The network card
is inactive or disconnected. All jobs are placed in the
BG_JOB_STATE_TRANSIENT_ERROR state

The scan finished, but I needed to install another update & I was supposed
to do a restart. There were a couple of other things, but I do not think
anything major. I will run it again in the morning. I am on EST. Thank you
for helping me out this far. I really appreciate your help. Lauren

Wireless Router:-
In the security tab, make sure you aren't blocking AcitveX

You'll need to contact Panda regarding your problem with them.

| Additional information below:
| All are fine for:
| Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS)
| Cryptographic Services
| Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
| System Restore Service
|
| The computer I am having a problem with is on a linksys wireless adapter,
| but connection is good. The card is in the machine.
|
| I went to the panda site For Panda Platinum 2005, and you get 0x80200010 ,
| go to:
| but it said my version wasn't compatible.
|
|
Lauren
|
| ************************
| I found that error with the description on the MS website.
| BG_E_NETWORK_DISCONNECTED (0x80200010)
| The network adapter is inactive or disconnected. All jobs are placed in the
| BG_JOB_STATE_TRANSIENT_ERROR state.
| I went into device manager & everything was okay. The only thing I had
| disabled was the internal NIC card. So I turned it on & tried WU again, &
| still nothing.
| *********************************
| I just called Linksys & they reinstalled the network adaptor. The WU custom
| did not work, but for the first time, the yellow shield popped up on my
| computer for IE7. Do I have enough memory to run this on this computer or
| should I just leave IE6.
|
| Windows Baseline Security analyzer results:
| Security assessment: Potential Risk (One or more non-critical checks failed.)
| Windows Security Updates: 1 service packs or update rollups are missing.
| (This is IE7)
| Incomplete Updates No incomplete software update installations were found.
| Auditing Check is skipped on Windows XP Home Edition computers.
| Services No potentially unnecessary services were found.
| Shares No potentially unnecessary services were found.
| SQL Server/MSDE Status SQL Server and/or MSDE is not installed on this
| computer.
|
| In Event Viewer, I found this error The description for Event ID ( 5000 ) in
| Source ( MPSampleSubmission ) cannot be found. The local computer may not
| have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display
| messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag
| to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following

|
| I still cannot do WU custom

| You problem actually might be slightly different to my problem - the error
| code means -
|
| BG_E_NETWORK_DISCONNECTED 0x80200010
| The network card is inactive or disconnected. All jobs are placed in the
| BG_JOB_STATE_TRANSIENT_ERROR state
|
| If you are using Panda - check this 16/7/05 - For the conflict between
| windows update and Panda anti-virus Titanium 2005 the hotfix is:
| hfT50504s8.exe and you can find it here:
|
| For Panda Platinum 2005, and you get 0x80200010 , go to:
|
| If not check this - Make sure these services are not disabled (Start, Run,
| type: Services.msc
| Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS)
| Cryptographic Services
| Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
| System Restore Service

| I clear out the software disbrituation file & it didn't work. I manually
| downloaded each of the high priority updates except for IE7. In between I
| tried WD & it failed. I found the Baselne Security Analyser on Microsoft & I
| am running it now. I wonder if there is just something wrong with my Windows
| Update file. Is there a way to reinstall it? If so, which one? I am pretty
| good with doing this, but I am not an expert. I appreciate all your help.

| I recently had this error myself for some reason and what I did was clean
| out the softwaredistribution/download folder - tried WU again (but
| unfortunately t still failed), then I manually downloaded one update and it
| installed successfully and the computer rebooted and AU kicked in with the
| rest of the updates.
|
| So I'm assuming that after the softwaredistribution/download folder is
| cleared out - the computer requires a reboot.
|
| I then ran Baselne Security Analyser just to check - all updates are
| installed.
| Mark who was following my progress stated:-
|
| Hi Kaylene,
| Your last suggestion did the trick I think. Clear out
| C:\windows\softwaredistribution\download and then re-boot. After rebooting I
| tried to Express install again and had the same failure but when I selected
| Custom and then picked the security patches...the download worked perfectly.
| I also noticed that the files are 0kb in size when choosing the Express
| install vs. 515kb and 2.30Mb when using the Custom download option. Maybe the
| express file targets are corrupt.
| Thanks, Mark

| On the WU Website, select your history of updates - now click on failed
| update (red mark) and see if there is an error code. If there is an error
| code, write it down and post back or in the alternative, do a search for the
| error code.
|
| Also -
| Click Start, and then click Run.
| In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log and
| then click OK.
| Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error
| code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install. If
| appropriate copy and paste the error codes into this thread so someone may be
| able to assist you. On the other hand, you may be able to find the error code
| and other suggestions by searching the Newsgroup.
|
| Also check Windows folder for file called KB******.log (****** = number of
| update ie
| KB896688) and post the contents of the failed update.
| This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.

| (installed) I have done disk cleanup, defrag. It has a 55 GB HD & 48 GB free
| NTFS, Pentium 111
| In internet options security: Internet is set to medium
| I have not received any specific error code
| Nothing is updating. Please help. Thank You.
