[crosspost to Windows Update newsgroup]

When does your OneCare subscription expire?

Open Add/Remove Programs | Make sure the SHOW UPDATES box at the top is
checked | Scroll down & tell me which, if any, of the following are listed:
KB982524, KB982168, KB979909 and KB974417 ??

PA Bear,

sure, the KB 979909 and KB 974417 were installed on 6/23/10, but the KB
982524, KB 982168 were not... My WLOC subscription expires in September and,
of course, I'll switch to MS Essentials.

Now, how to install the other two Kb and get rid off of the reminder?

KB982524 & KB982168 are Optional, non-security updates. Feel free to hide
them & move on with your life.

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
Open the Download folder and delete its contents
Close the window.

3. Go to Windows Update website | Select CUSTOM and allow the scan to
complete | Uncheck/deselect KB982524 & KB982168 and hide them ("Don't show
me this update again").

4. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)

If he does, it's his answer, and you can't have it. You must get your own.
