Well, for a start you could check on the versions of all the modules that
that KB lists for your OS. E.g. open
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=956390
and do a find (e.g. Ctrl-f) for:
<quote>
Internet Explorer 6 on all supported 32-bit versions of Windows XP
</quote>
Tip: a simple way to list most of the current installed versions is to use msinfo32.exe
E.g. Run... (press Win-R and enter
msinfo32.exe /category IEFileVersions
Click on the Version header once or twice to sort the list that way descending.
Note that the sorted data is capturable in case you want to have more than one
copy of it. Also you can have more than one instance of msinfo32.exe open at a time,
so you could have the same list open in different sort orders, for example.
If the versions are not what they should be then one possible cause would be
that something is interfering with the copy/rename of inuse modules by the boot.
In that case it may help to switch to a Safe mode boot to get that done with less
interference and then do another normal boot.

Unless you have also tried this update by downloading and installing
manually the correct version for your version of Windows (e.g. Swedish)
your problem cause could be AU/WU/MU (e.g. somehow getting a wrong
package that way.) Cross-posting to WU.
Good luck
