Go to the Windows Update Catalog page (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp)
and follow the link on left menu bar to Windows Update, it goes to v4 and does not redirect to v5.

THANK YOU! I have had the same problem as "tqqkk". I
would always get V5. Which is a complete failure, IMO.
V5 won't download the updates. it downloaded the BITS
v2.0 and winHTTP 5.1 (not sure if it was 5.1 now...) just
fine. but after that when i could select my updates.
everything went fine until it started to download. but
since i have gotten back to v4 which i have NEVER had a
problem with I'm gonna stick with it. tahnks again Carey

Have you checked to see if you still have history in V4? V5 ate my
iuhist.xml file from ver 4 so I have no history in v5 and when I go back to
v4, I also have no history. I am disgusted. This has happened to so many XP
users. None of us have any history in either version of WU.

Is going back to v4 a short term solution to any v5 problems? Will Microsoft
eventually discontinue support to v4 and force every one to go to v5?

Hello,

All Windows XP systems are scheduled for migration to V5 within the next few
weeks. V4 will not be accessible to these systems after the migration.
