Does anyone have any idea on when MS is going to re-release Update Rollup 1
for windows 2000 service pack 4? I know they says soon, but what kind of
answer is that really..

I am suffering from the dynamic disk with two system drives issue.
I am ok right now, If I dont install or reboot.

My only other question right now is, will the re-release fix my current
problem, or will I have to uninstall the current rollup that is installed to
install the re-released version?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891861

Anyone have any ideas?

You're not the first to ask this question recently so let me ask: Other than
KB891861, where have you heard about the reissue of Win2K SP2 Rollup 1?

Have you installed Rollup 1 and experience problems requiring its removal?
When did you install it?

It was reissued once already, shortly after the initial release on 28
Jun-05. IOW the statement relating to the reissue in KB891861 may not be
current.

According to KB891861, Rollup 1 will be offered by Automatic Update,
effective 05 Sept-05.

You might have to install the backup to the re-release and then uninstall
the previous release before the aforementioned install of the re-release of
the current release. Try that.

Thanks for the response,

Other than KB891861 and some older posts on other sites I have not heard
anything about the reissue. I would like to know when, if anyone knows, or am
I in the dark here?

I have installed installed Rollup 1. it's the July 18th version.
I am experiencing problems that looks like I need to remove it.
It was install around the 1st of August.

I am experiencing the double system drive issue mentioned in KB891861 under
Known issues.

I have been waiting for MS to reissue the rollup in hopes it will fix the
two system drive issue when using dynamic disks. I am just not sure if I MUST
uninstall the rollup 1 that is currently installed, to be able to install MS
reissued version when ever that day comes.

I am hoping I can just install MS reissued version over the current version
to fix my issue. This is a DC and unistalling the rollup doesn't sound like
something I really want to do. I have not installed or changed anything
since the installation of rollup1.

Thanks in advance,

Jason

As 891861 was first released on 28 Jun-05 and a revised version reissued
shortly thereafter, it would appear that you've got the revised version
installed.

The KB article states, "This problem does not appear to affect
functionality." Does functionality appear to be affected on your machine?
Does uninstalling 891861 via the 4-step method listed in the article improve
things?

For further information on the status of a possible reissue of 891861, I
suggest you post to a Win2K-specific newsgroup (e.g.,
microsoft.public.windows2000.general) or contact MS Product Support Services
via this toll-free number: 1-866-PCSAFETY (US &CA).

Hi,

Actually, it does not exist a revised version of Update Rollup 1
/ KB891861 (yet).

The change that was done shortly after the original release, was only
the way URP1 installs via WSUS or Window Update/Microsoft Update by
removing the "express installation" capability and requiring the full
installation. This was done to avoid msxml3.dll to become a 0 byte
large file in some cases.

The update itself (files, registry keys, etc.) was not modified in any
way.

Hi,

Most likely, Update Rollup 1 / KB891861 will be re-released within one
month from now.

I am pretty sure you will not need to uninstall the previous version
before installing the new version of Update Rollup 1.

Regards,
Torgeir
