Replace the Linksys controller with one of the XBox 360 media center remotes
(under $20). The remote conforms to the standard as does the XBox remote.

I have Windows MediaCenter v 6.1.7600.16385 running on a Windows 7
Home Premium computer.
I purchased and installed a Linksys DMA2100 extender, which I used
exclusively to play from a library of ripped CD tracks. So far, so
good. Then a minor disaster destroyed the remote which came with the
Linksys extender.
I called Linksys and learned that they don’t sell a standalone
replacement remote. Their tech support told me that “any media center
remote” should work as a substitute.
Trolling the web, I saw a recommendation for a “Microsoft media center
remote. The website shows this A90-00007 remote as having both a
remote and an infrared receiver.
So, would the Microsoft remote replace the Linksys remote?
What exactly does the “receiver” do? Is it unnecessary when the
DMA2100 is the receiver?
