sounds like a patched environment and you should ideally use a switche with
layer2-3 between it where you can set VLANs for traffic seperation (client,
server, dmz, backup...). But in short, yes switch would be better but you
can also connect your firewall directly with your server (cross over could
be required here) which is a unusual scenario. What kind of firewall do you
use here ?
