You need to be using channel 3 out of the STB as you have found.
In order to control the channel selection on the STB from the MC computer
you need a MC compatible remote connected and it needs to have a IR blaster
mounted in front of the STBs ir receiver to emulate the STBs own remote.

What antenna settings are you using? You should be using cable settings for
your local cable company.

Have you tried a postal code that is in a nearby larger city that uses the
same cable company?
Have you contacted MS Venezuela?
Have you tried S-video? you will get a better quality picture then you will
get over coax if it works.

The problem is that jazzthing's STB doesn't have anything other than coax
out - no s-video, no RCA, no component, etc.

Have you tried telling it you have s-video anyway, just to get through the
setup, possibly even plug something into the s-video (a video
camera/vcr/etc.) just so MCE senses and input during setup.

I've never purposely told it the wrong input, so I don't know if it then
ignores the input on the other connections once you run through the setup or
if you can set it up for s-video and then receive a signal through the coax
anyway.

MS uses Zaptoit.com to provide their guide data. You might check their
website and see if they acknowledge the presence of your cable provider.
Otherwise I am stumped/

Have you tried running the WinTV application from Hauppauge and the guide
they make available. I have no idea if their guide supports your location.
I have no problem with my 150 card and either Win7 MC or with the Hauppauge
WinTV app.

I think you haven't seen the problem much, because a STB with only coax out
is a rare item these days. I think your best bet is to contact the cable
provider about changing the box. With many household switching to HD flat
screens and most providers offering hundreds of digital/HD content, it's
hard to believe that they only have coax boxes.

PS Don't clip the threads, it best to leave everything intact for future
reference. Many people use dedicated newsreaders for newsgroups/forums
rather than web sites or engines (like techarena or google) that steal
(oops, I mean find) the content. So if someone doesn't have their reader set
store every message, they only see the most recent, so no message history.

If you are unable to select and get the guide for your local cable company
then the tuner will not work either with the blaster.
