I used to get those error messages on Vista Home Premium, and found it
was due to a conflict with Nero 7. I switched to the latest Nero and
the problem was solved.

Since it appears to be related to thumbnail preview of videos, a
temporary workaround is to goto Control Panel, Folder Options, View
and check the item 'Always show icons, never thumbnails'

You will, however lose jpeg preview.

I was having the same problem. Not sure whay caused it since I have many
MP4's and have been using them in the same directory for months. But
suddenly I get the "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" message.

I went into CMD and tried to isolate the file causing the issue - I
copied one MP4 at a time to a new directory and then tried to open that
directory using explorer. However Explorer crashes for any file that I
copy from that directory! So somehow all the thumbnails for all the
files in that directory were corrupted.

I did the temporary work-around using control panel as per
fat_man_on_a_bicycle suggested and explorer no longer crashes. Thank you
for the help.

More clues from this thread indicated a bad codec, so I uninstalle
"Muvee Reveal" which I had as a 15 day trial (day 2). The problem is no
resolved. Explorer can view the files/icons as thumbnails now

Thanks aggain
