Ummmmm......okay, I'm confused!

The account resetting to the exchange account is caused because, by default,
the SBS login script in 2003 does this. And, for the record, that is a GOOD
thing! And thus my confusion....

IF you have another non-exchange account setup, then there are two
scenarios:

Scenario 1: In the outlook profile, you've pointed the outgoing SMTP server
to be your exchange server. That could potentially explain problems with
the Exchange SMTP queue, depending on how the virtual SMTP servers are
setup, but why would you do this setup? Why not use the Exchange accoutn
instead? I see *NO* benefit to submitting outgoing mail to the exchange
server but forcing outlook to NOT use the exchange APIs.

Scenario 2: You've set up the outgoing SMTP server to be a 3rd-party server.
In which case the Exchange SMTP queue should not be impacted at all because
no messages are going through exchange. I also don't see the purpose of
running SBS in this scenario, as a major reason to run SBS is Exchange.
It'd be cheaper to purchase Windows Server 2008 Standard. The cost savings
of SBS come in only when Exchange is taken into consideration as well as the
core OS licenses.

....so I have to ask, why do your outlook profiles have separate pop3/smtp
accounts? You'd be far better served by letting Exchange handle any SMTP
sending and receiving (and if absolutely necessary the pop3 stuff via the
pop3 connector) than letting outlook do so independently. As you've already
discovered, maintenance is a PITA with your current setup.
