What version of Windows are you running? XP Home or Professional? 32 bit
or 64 bit?

First of all, are you logged in on the computer as an administrator? The
0x8007005 is an "access denied" error, usually attributed to the current
user not having administrative privileges. However, even if the account you
are using is an administrator, it might not have permission to access
certain files or registry keys that it should be able to access. Can you
give us any further details about the error you're getting? Is there
anything in the Event Logs related to it?

Second, the KB numbers that you gave are for two different updates. 936929
is Windows XP Service Pack 3. You can download that and install it
separately. See

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936929

969947 is an update from Microsoft Security Bulletin MS09-065. After you've
installed SP3, go to

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS09-065.mspx

You can download the appropriate update for your operating system using the
links on the "Affected Software" table.

Try installing these updates manually and let us know what happens.
