Mine went down to 18! It would try 3-4 times to connect with my ISP
and by the time it could, it was down to that speed.

It is most certainly NOT an ISP problem. Do all these people posting
about this problem have the same ISP? It IS an SP2 problem.

I installed SP2 yesterday and as soon as I did I found I had trouble
connecting to my ISP and when I did finally, my connection speed was
WAY DOWN.

They suggested I try calling into some of their different dial-up
numbers, including the main one. I had the same problem everytime.

Called Microsoft and had to make 3 different phone calls to them since
my computer uses the same line as the phone. (I was put on hold once
and heard some of the most ****ing annoying, loud musak I ever heard
in my life. I almost hung up it was so shitty.)

So MS had me turn off the SP2 firewall; they had me turn on the SP2
firewall and turn off my virus protection software, my spam-killing
software, and my spybot scanning software. It got me up to 33 and
that was it; it didn't get me back to 45+. When I tried calling back
a 4th time, the wait-time had gone up to an hour. Sorry, not tonight
for waiting that damn long!

So I did something my ISP suggested. I UNINSTALLED SP2 to see if that
fixed things. And once it was off, SURPRISE! I was back to my usual
45 speed connection.

It is a virus problem being spread my Microsoft called Service Pack 2.
I have to admit this is one of the cleverest spam spreading I have
ever see.

So I am going to try to see if there is an update drive for my modem
at their website. Microsoft has nothing; I tried the Update.

But what the **** happens if I cannot get an update drive? This
leaves me with a choice of reinstalling SP2 and dealing with the much,
much slower connection speed, or leave it off, and then not be able to
install further updates because they will likely depending on SP2
being on my PC.

Do I want to spend more hours on the phone with MS, having to hang up,
try to connect, and call back everytime they want me to try something
else and see if it works???

Gods, I wish I could afford DSL but I don't even have enough money to
pay all my other bills each month.
