Thank you so much for the insight. I went into msconfig and disabled all of
the startup items, rebooted and downloaded SP2. It failed. I then downloaded
WinPatrol 9.0 rebooted the system - tried to download the SP2 (which it did)
but go the same error. I have an extra hard drive, maybe I will install XP
Pro on it, then migrate the software from the failing computer.
