Hi

Please try the following:

1)
Click Start >> Run >>
Type the follow command in the Open box.
"net.exe stop wuauserv" (w/o quotes)
Press Ok

Repeat the same for the following commands:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Restart the machine and try WU site again.

2)
If it still doesn't work, see if this one helps:

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site,
you see the 0x800A01AD error while looking for updates
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=13&ln=en

3)
If it still doesn't work, see if this one helps:

Go to
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2

Look for fixdb.bat under "Error 0x800710D9 Unable to read from
or write to the database". Download and run it.

4)
If the above didn't work, you can remove (or rename) the
Softwaredistribution folder and see if it helps.

Follow step 2 here to do this:

Today (9/13/04) on my (manual visit) the update site scanned, found,
downloaded and installed (using custom)with NO errors!
Last week (9/05/04)the error code which translated to no Network connection
may have been as a result of the following services not on.
(Cryptographic ;BIT )

It is now posted at http://www.blackviper.com/News/current.htm to have
Cryptographic, BIT and Event Log services running while in Sp2 in order to
have a manual or automatic update. If you don't want to do manual updates
then place these services in the Automatic. So those three as well as the
autoupdate service need to be running.
The only other thing I did was put the Microsoft update site addresses in
the IE6 browser.

During the process the Com Surrogate needed to be given access to the
Internet through outgoing Zone Alarm firewall(dllhost.exe
version5.1.2600.2180(xpsp-sp2_rtm.040803-2158) It appears to be part of the
..net framework and resides in the System32 folder. It is not one of the
viruses or trojans.
There is a d-link router in place here and the ZA firewall which I didn't
configure specifically for the Microsoft update site and both were running
as well as the Norton 2003 anti virus when this successful download
proceeded.
