You *did* know that in the first 7 days this year more than 170.000 new
viruses (often same virus, but different signature) appeared, do you?

So, what you are telling us, is that your AV had that much signature-updates
the first 7 days.
Pray tell, what else did your system do than constantly updating AV and
scanning?
