If you want to continue to use nntp newsgroups there's:

alt.windows7.general

I have no idea how good it is.

It seems though, that Microsoft has knowingly failed to open an English
newsgroup for Windows 7 on its msnews.microsoft.com newsservers. But they
have opened quite an active couple of online "web" forums at:

[TechNet for IT Professionals]
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...tegory/w7itpro

[Windows 7 Answers Forum]
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...egory/windows7

On top of that there are a number of non-Microsoft web forums:

[Windows 7 Forums]
windows7forums.com

[Windows Seven Forums]
http://www.sevenforums.com

[Windows 7 & 8 Forums]
http://windows7news.com/forum

[Windows7Forums]
http://www.w7forums.com

[Windows Forums]
http://windowsforums.org

[Windows 7 Forum]
http://7x64.net

As well technically oriented websites such as http://www.tomshardware.com
have Windows 7 sections in their more generalized forums.

From what I've been hearing, that newsgroup doesn't actually exist.
Apparently someone said there was a newsgroup by that name but it
doesn't actually show up anywhere. Has anyone actually seen it?

Not every news provider carries it. That's not a particularly unusual
occurrence on Usenet.

OK, I guess I can subscribe to yet another free provider :-)

Or not.

OTOH, the few remarks I've seen on this NG seem to like
alt.windows7.general.

Hasn't really seemed to generate much traffic yet, but I'm sure that will
change
