[Crossposted to Windows Update newsgroup in case KB944533's involved]

How to troubleshoot network connectivity problems in Internet Explorer
[ignore APPLIES TO section if you're not running Vista]
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936211
=====================
Error message after you install a Windows Internet Explorer 7 update from
Windows Update or from Microsoft Update: "Webpage cannot be displayed":
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942818

If tweaking your third-party firewall's settings don't help, try the
following:

1. Disable your anti-virus application, any real-time protection provided by
an anti-spyware application (except for Windows Defender; includes Spybot
Tea Timer, SpySweeper Guards, AVG AS guard.exe, etc.), disable any
third-party firewall AND enable the Windows Firewall.

NB: You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else online (e.g.,
browsing; reading email; chatting) except #4 below until your anti-virus
application has been re-enabled! If you're running ZA Free firewall, you
may need to uninstall it instead of disabling it.

2. Uninstall "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB942615)"
via Add/Remove Programs (make sure Show Updates box is checked at top right)
and reboot.

3. Re-do #1 above.

4. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any Critical Updates
offered. If "Root Certificates" update is listed in the Optional Updates
category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of IE7's
additional security.

5. Reboot > Make sure everything in #1 above is enabled again and, if
applicable, disable the Windows Firewall and enable your third-party
firewall.

Sounds great, but how to do it, when IE7 still does not connect and
windowsupdate.microsoft.com does not work with firefox?

I had this same problem. Restore the computer back to a point before the
update. The Cumulative Security Update for IE7 (KB944533) is what caused my
connection problem.

No, your anti-virus app and/or anti-spyware app and/or third-party firewall
caused the problem after you installed KB944533 and rebooted.

I have the same problem with the updates. I unistalled the updates that I
received today except it wouldn't let me do KB937287 and KB938371. So I am
guessing one of these two updates are corrupted because I still can not get
it to work.

I am getting Web Page cannot be displayed errors. I tried the link to
diagnose problem but that didn't work. I started uninstalling the updates
one by one besides the two that would not let me. I seen some posts about
windows firewall so I turned that off and rebooted, but I still was not able
to get IE to work. There is Norton security preloaded but I couldn't find a
way to turn it off. I think that Norton is using the Windows Firewall
because windows firewall was turned on. I was wondering why you think that
the updates are not the problem. I had a working system before the updates
self installed but right now I have a boat anchor. I will keep watching the
posts and trying different things until I get it fixed but I hope in the
future MS doesn't make this a habit.

2. Uninstall "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB944533)"
via Add/Remove Programs (make sure Show Updates box is checked at top right)
and reboot.

3. Re-do #1 above.

4. Manually check for and install any critical updates using Windows Update:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial140.html

5. Reboot > Make sure everything in #1 above is enabled again and, if
applicable, disable the Windows Firewall and enable your third-party
firewall.
