What firewall is being used on the Win 2K box ?

Open a Command Prompt by going to Start, Run, type in
cmd
Click OK
At the prompt type in, and press Enter after each line :

proxycfg -d
net stop wuauserv
net start wuauserv
exit

Restart the system. If the installed antivirus software is a Norton
product, strongly recommend that you temporarily disable ALL of it's
RealTime Protection prior to revisiting Windows Update.

This entry in the WindowsUpdate.log is puzzling :

Go to Start, Run, type in
eventvwr.msc
Click OK

In the left frame, click on Application.
In the right frame, look for a red circle with an X through it that says
Error and under Source, look for " MsiInstaller " or " Windows Update
Agent ".
Double click on those errors. Click the File icon under the up and down
arrows to copy the info displayed to the Clipboard.
Then copy&paste the errors into your reply.

A sample looks like this :

So, the Dial-a-fix seemed not to be the real final help on this problem.

Anyway, thanks for the latest new instructions, I tried them as follows:

1. I did the proxycfg -d and the wuauserv stop/start
2. I did the TIF and Software Distribution Downloads deletions
3. I did the suggested restart
4. I tried once again the Custom Update
5. There hasn't been any firewall or antivirus on since few weeks, just the
LAN/NAT

As seen above, the Agent do not on the first round find any updates for this
system,
but after some minutes on a retrial finds 4 of them, and in short after that
the update proceeding will end, maybe getting a 20 minutes timeout?, and
reports
the error 0x8DDD0009, quite strange, isn't it ...

I hope there will soon be found some explanation and solution for this
problem ...

(Sorry, if this is a repated reply, as I think I have already once been
writing something like this, but it didn't pop-up here on this thread/topic
now, maybe been lost or hiding somewhere ...)

I think the renewal of the Winlogon\Notify hive now finally solved the
0x8DDD009 error problem.

But ... now I'm facing the sub-sequent problem on the Custom Updates i.e.
"Updates were unable to be successfully installed", on which I already
previously have been opening another topic by the name "Update failing on
Win2000", the "1st" one.

I'll be moving to that topic to continue the troubleshooting of this error.
